Axis Bank Devalues 5 Credit Cards

This news, “Axis Bank devalues 5 credit cards”, actually started from the July 2023 update only. After that also bank didn’t stop — in 2024 and 2025, they again made more changes in many cards like Magnus, Flipkart Axis, and more.

The main effect is simple: earlier rewards were coming easily, now reward earning reduced, and some bonus categories have limits. Some renewal and milestone benefits were also removed. Even airport lounge access now depends on higher spending, not automatic like before. Fee waiver also became difficult because the yearly spend target increased.

So, practically, the customer now has to use the card much more to get the same benefit. If spending is low, the card value feels less compared to old version. The initial 2023 devaluation mainly affected these five popular Axis Bank credit cards:

Axis Bank credit card reward and lounge access changes
  1. Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card
  2. Axis Bank Atlas Credit Card
  3. Magnus Axis Bank Credit Card
  4. Axis Privilege Credit Card
  5. Axis Select Credit Card

1. Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card — 2026 Changes (Easy Understanding)

See, earlier this card was famous because rewards were almost unlimited. But by 2026, it has become a capped shopping card only, travel benefits almost finished. Biggest change came in June 2025 when airport lounge access was completely removed.

Before vs After

FeatureEarlier BenefitCurrent Benefit (2026)
Flipkart CashbackUnlimited 5%5% but capped ₹4,000 per quarter
Myntra Cashback1% normal7.5% (capped ₹4,000 per quarter)
Lounge Access4 free visits yearlyCompletely removed
Other Spends1.5% cashback1% cashback
Fee Waiver₹2 lakh yearly spend₹3.5 lakh yearly spend
CleartripUnlimited 5%Capped ₹4,000 per quarter

Important New Rules

  • Cashback is now counted quarterly (3-month cycle), not monthly.
  • If you spend about ₹80,000 on Flipkart in one quarter, you already hit the cashback cap — after that, only 1% cashback comes.
  • No cashback on insurance, rent, fuel, wallet loads, gold or jewellery payments.
  • If you close the card, unused rewards must be redeemed within 30 days, or they expire.
  • Interest on unpaid bills is high: about 3.75% per month (≈45% yearly).

Expert Advice – Now this card is best used only for Flipkart or Myntra shopping within a limit. For general online shopping everywhere, many users now keep another cashback card because this one is no longer an all-purpose rewards card like before.

2. Axis Bank Atlas Credit Card

Look, Axis Atlas is still a travel-miles card, but after the 20 April 2024 update, the value reduced a lot. Earlier, high spenders were earning big bonus miles easily; now the bank has put limits and extra rules. Now, many Axis Bank credit cards need about ₹50,000 in spending in a quarter to unlock airport lounge access. But Atlas, Reserve and Burgundy Private cards are still exempt — lounge entry works even without meeting that quarterly spend condition.

What changed (Current Rules)

FeatureBefore (Old)Now (2026)
Travel Rewards5 EDGE Miles per ₹100 unlimited5 EDGE Miles per ₹100 but capped after ₹2 lakh spend/month
Base Rewards2 Miles per ₹100Same (unchanged)
Milestone Benefit17,500 EDGE Miles10,000 EDGE Miles
Annual Bonus10,000 EDGE Miles5,000 EDGE Miles
Miles TransferUnlimited1,50,000 miles/year cap
Lounge AccessNo conditionStill free (Atlas exempt from ₹50k quarterly rule)
Concierge ServicesMeet & greet, pickupRemoved completely

Important Rules

  • Partners split into Group A (Accor, Marriott, Singapore Airlines) and Group B (Air India, Vistara).
  • Transfer limit: 30,000 miles/year for Group A and 1,20,000 miles/year for Group B.
  • ₹199 fee charged every time you transfer miles.
  • No rewards on rent, insurance, fuel, utilities, gold or government payments.
  • Welcome bonus reduced to 2,500 miles.
  • Interest at about 3.75% per month if the bill is unpaid.

Should You Keep It?

Practical talk — still useful only if you travel flights and hotels regularly. Miles value is strong because 1 EDGE Mile converts roughly 1:2 partner miles, so airline bookings still give a good return up to ₹2 lakh monthly spending. But after around ₹15 lakh yearly spend, extra spending gives less value. Many heavy spenders then shift additional payments to other premium travel cards while keeping Atlas mainly for flight/hotel bookings.

3. Magnus Credit Card

Before this rule, Axis Magnus was talked about as one of the top reward cards in India. But after continuous changes from 2023 onward, the card became much stricter. Now there are basically two versions — normal Magnus and Magnus for Burgundy (premium banking customers). Burgundy still keeps better value; normal Magnus lost many benefits.

Before vs After

FeatureEarlier (Pre-Sept 2023)Current 2026 Rules
Points Transfer5:4 ratio (high value)5:2 ratio (almost half value)
Monthly Milestone25,000 points on ₹1L spendRemoved completely
Transfer LimitUnlimited5 lakh points/year cap
Lounge AccessUnlimited freeNeed ₹50,000 spend in last 3 months
Guest Visits8 per year4 per year
Annual Fee₹10,000 + GST₹12,500 + GST
Fee Waiver₹15 lakh spend₹25 lakh spend

New Rules

  • Partners are split into Group A and Group B transfer limits.
  • Higher reward earning also capped from June 2025.
  • If your card is closed or unpaid for 90 days, points expire within 30 days.
  • Concierge, airport meet-assist and BookMyShow BOGO offers removed.

Burgundy Version (Exception)

Customers holding Magnus for Burgundy still get better value — near old transfer ratio and higher transfer limits — but the annual fee is high (around ₹30,000 + GST) and requires Axis Burgundy banking relationship.

Practical View

For heavy spenders, it still works as a travel miles card. But if monthly spending is below about ₹1.5 lakh, many users now feel other premium cards give better value because Magnus no longer gives easy rewards like earlier.

4. Axis Privilege Credit Card

Axis Privilege earlier was more travel-type card, but after May 2025 changes bank shifted focus to movies and dining. So now it works more like a lifestyle/entertainment card rather than a miles card.

Before vs After (2026)

FeatureOld VersionCurrent 2026 Rules
Lounge AccessEarlier easy / sometimes unlimited2 visits per quarter but need ₹50,000 spend in last 3 months
Movie OfferVery limitedBOGO movie ticket on District app (up to ₹250 discount monthly)
Fee Waiver₹2.5 lakh yearly spend₹5 lakh yearly spend
Milestone Bonus3,000 points10,000 EDGE points on ₹2.5 lakh spend
Miles TransferUnlimitedTransfer caps added (Group A & B limits)

Key Features & Charges

  • Reward earning: 10 EDGE points per ₹200 spend (roughly ~1% value).
  • Welcome benefit: about 12,500 EDGE points (~₹2,500 value) after joining fee payment and first transaction within 30 days.
  • Dining: discounts up to ₹800 via partner restaurants on EazyDiner.
  • Joining/annual fee: ₹1,500 + GST (often free for Axis Priority customers).
  • No rewards counted on rent, fuel, utilities, insurance and government payments.

Practical Takeway

Now this card suits people who go movies and restaurants regularly. For frequent flyers it is weaker, because lounge access needs spending condition and rewards are not very high. It works better as a lifestyle card, not a serious travel rewards card anymore.

5. Axis Select Credit Card

See, Axis Select was earlier a semi-premium travel type card. But after the bank updates in 2024 and June 2025, the card was reshaped. The bank removed some premium travel facilities and instead pushed movies, grocery and lifestyle offers.

Before (Old Version – pre-2024)

  • 2 domestic lounge visits per quarter without any spending condition
  • BookMyShow movie BOGO up to around ₹300
  • BigBasket ₹500 discount required about ₹3,000 shopping
  • 24×7 travel concierge assistance available
  • Accelerated rewards mostly uncapped

After (Current Rules)

  • 2 lounge visits per quarter, but need ₹50,000 spent in the previous 3 months
  • Movie offer shifted tothe District app (₹250 off, twice monthly)
  • BigBasket ₹500 off now on about ₹2,500 shopping
  • Concierge service removed (April 2024)
  • Shopping rewards are capped around 20,000 EDGE points per month

Now this card is more useful for grocery, food delivery and entertainment users. For travel lovers it became weaker because lounge requires spending and concierge service is gone. It works as a lifestyle card, not a premium travel card anymore.
