ICICI Bank HPCL Super Saver Credit Card is a fuel saving credit card. It is made by ICICI Bank with HP petrol pump company (HPCL). The card is useful for regular spending like petrol, electricity bill payment and grocery shopping.
You can get up to 5% value-back on fuel and also around 5% benefit on utility bills and grocery purchases. This card is not for flight points or luxury rewards. It is mainly for normal monthly use.
If you ride a bike or drive a car and refill petrol every week, the card helps you save some money. It also gives small benefit when paying electricity bill and buying household items.
As per Elets BFSI, ICICI Bank started this card with Hindustan Petroleum on 20 July 2021. It is suitable for family users, salaried persons and small business people who want to reduce monthly expenses.
ICICI Bank has two credit cards with the HP petrol pump company (HPCL).
- First is the ICICI Bank HPCL Super Saver Credit Card, which gives around 5% fuel saving.
- Second is the ICICI Bank HPCL Coral Credit Card, which gives around 2.5% fuel saving.
Both cards are mainly made for petrol expense users. The purpose is fuel saving, not shopping rewards or travel points.
These cards come in different card networks:
- RuPay card (most people get this)
- Visa card (given to some applicants)
- Mastercard (limited cases, depends on profile and service area)
The benefits are almost the same in all versions. But the RuPay card also gives extra features like accident insurance cover and basic concierge help.

The Recent Changes happens in the ICICI HPCL Credit Card
As per the Economic Times, from 1 Feb 2026, ICICI Bank changed some rules in the HPCL Super Saver Credit Card. The bank did not close the benefits, but they put limits on them, and some new charges started.
Reward limits (important)
- Insurance payment points are now allowed only up to ₹40,000 in one month.
If you pay a bigger premium, the extra amount will not give a reward. - Train ticket, bus booking, metro recharge and similar transport spending — rewards only up to ₹10,000 monthly.
New charges added
- If you use card on gaming apps like Dream11 or MPL, the bank now takes 2% charge on that payment.
- If you add money in wallets (Amazon Pay, Paytm, Mobikwik), 1% fee will apply when the amount is ₹5,000 or more.
- Very big transport payments (above ₹50,000) will also get 1% charge.
- Paying the credit card bill by cash in branch is now ₹150 per payment. Earlier it was ₹100.
Simple understanding
Card still useful for petrol and bills, but the bank is stopping people from using it for heavy payments and wallet transfer-type use.
Real example (Easemoney type case): One reader paid LIC insurance premium around ₹72,000 using this card, thinking he will get full reward points. But only ₹40,000 counted for rewards. The remaining amount got zero points. He only realised after statement came.
So now this card is best for normal monthly use petrol, electricity bill, grocery. not for big payments or wallet loading.
What are the Pros And Cons of The Card?
The Pros (Why it’s worth it)
1. Fuel saving is main benefit
You get around 5% saving at HP petrol pump. Example: if you spend about ₹4,000 every month on petrol, in 1 year you almost recover fuel cost of one full tank. HP Pay app also shows points so easy to track.
2. Bills and grocery help
Electricity bill and mobile recharge also give near 5% value back. For a basic card, this is actually helpful because these are monthly expenses anyway.
3. Road help service
Card also gives roadside help. If bike or car stops on road, they can arrange towing, battery jump start or emergency fuel. Many people ignore this, but for daily office travellers it is useful.
4. Easy to take card
Annual fee is only ₹500 and it becomes free if you spend ₹1.5 lakh in a year. Even a ₹20,000 salary person can usually get approval.
The Cons (What to watch out for)
1. Monthly limit is small
Utility and grocery rewards stop after small spending. After around ₹2,000 monthly in those categories, extra spending will not give 5% benefit.
2. Airport lounge rule is strict now
In 2026, to get 1 free lounge visit, you must spend ₹35,000 in previous 3 months. For a normal budget card, this is a bit difficult.
3. Only HP petrol works
If you fill petrol at Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum or Shell, you get no fuel benefit. Card is basically locked to HP pumps.
4. New charges added
Gaming payments now have 2% charge and wallet loading has 1% fee. People who use Paytm or wallets a lot will feel this.
5. Point use also costs money
Whenever you redeem reward points, bank takes ₹99 fee, so small points redemption is not very useful.
One user was using this card only for shopping and online payments. He was not filling petrol at HP pump. After 6 months he said card gives no benefit. Later he shifted petrol filling to HP pump and paid electricity bill with the card — then every month statement started showing small savings and yearly fee got covered automatically.
If your monthly fuel + bill spending is above ₹5,000, this card works well and pays its own fee.
If your spending is low, then a lifetime free credit card is safer choice.
What are the charges and hidden costs?
ICICI Bank HPCL Super Saver Credit Card has normal yearly fees and also some charges when you use the card in certain ways. Many people don’t notice these and later get surprised in bill.
| What charge | Amount |
|---|---|
| Joining fee | ₹500 + GST |
| Yearly fee | ₹500 + GST |
| Fee free option | Spend ₹1.5 lakh yearly |
| Reward points use | ₹99 per time |
| Fuel surcharge rule | Only in this range |
| Wallet loading | 1% above ₹5,000 |
| Online gaming | 2% charge |
| Big transport payment | 1% fee |
| ATM cash withdraw | 2.5% (minimum ₹500) |
| Foreign payment | 3.5% extra |
| Interest on due | 3.40% per month |
| Late payment | ₹100 to ₹1,300 |
| Cash payment in branch | ₹150 each time |
| Over limit use | 2.5% (min ₹500) |
Quick tip – One cardholder paid only the minimum due for 3 months, thinking “next month I will clear it”. Bill was around ₹28,000. After some time total became above ₹32,000 because interest kept adding every month (3.40%). He said reward points were small, but interest became big.
So simple rule — Use this card for petrol and bills, but always pay the full bill amount, not minimum due. Minimum due looks safe, but actually very costly.
