The IndianOil HDFC Bank Credit Card is a fuel-based credit card made in partnership with HDFC Bank and Indian Oil. This card is mainly for people who spend regularly on petrol, diesel, and daily needs.
It is an entry-level card, so you don’t need a high salary or a heavy credit history. Even first-time credit card users can consider it. The main benefit is fuel savings, along with small rewards on everyday spending.
The card is available on both Visa and RuPay networks. If you choose the RuPay version, you can also link the card with UPI. This means you can pay through UPI apps such as Paytm or Phonepe and still get credit card benefits, which is very useful for daily payments.
This card is mainly designed for regular vehicle users who:
- Refill petrol or diesel frequently at IndianOil petrol pumps
- Have monthly spending on groceries and utility bills
- Want fixed and predictable fuel savings instead of lifestyle or luxury rewards
- Prefer a simple credit card without complicated reward rules
- Use the card for daily needs rather than occasional big purchases
This card is not useful if you mostly use UPI for fuel, spend a lot on petrol, or want premium travel and lounge benefits.
What are the Key Benefits & Rewards
The IndianOil HDFC Bank Credit Card earns rewards as Fuel Points, which give good value when redeemed for fuel at IndianOil pumps. It is especially useful for daily commuters, as the accumulated Fuel Points can give savings equal to around 50 litres of free fuel in a year.

1. Welcome & Activation Benefits
- Free IndianOil XTRAREWARDS membership: When you get the card, an IndianOil XTRAREWARDS membership is given free. You don’t have to apply separately.
- Fuel Points on normal spending: Even when you use the card for regular shopping or payments, you earn Fuel Points, which later help in fuel savings.
- Activation voucher: After you activate the card and do at least one transaction within 37 days, you get a ₹250 voucher. Just one swipe or payment is enough.
2. Fuel Benefits, Utility, and Groceries
- Fuel Savings: You put petrol or diesel at an IndianOil pump, you get 5% Fuel Points back. Simple but 1 rule here –
- Half year: For the first six months, you can get up to 250 Fuel Points in one month. Enough for normal bike or car use.
- After 6 Months: After that, the limit becomes 150 Fuel Points per month. Savings continue, but a little less.
- Daily Use Rewards: When you buy groceries or pay a light, gas, or mobile bill, you still get 5% points. The limit is 100 Fuel Points in one month for each.
- Other Spending: For all other spending, even UPI payments via QR Code, you get 1 point for every ₹150 spent.
- Surcharge Waiver: If the fuel bill is ₹400 or more, your 1% extra charge is removed. This benefit is limited to ₹250 in one month, which is okay for regular users.
Important: Fuel Surcharge waiver is cost-saving, not a reward.
Note – Fuel Points are special points only for this card. They are not HDFC points, cannot be transferred, and are useful only when you redeem them for fuel.
3. Banking & App Benefits
- Interest-free credit: You get up to 50 days without interest from the purchase date, as long as the merchant submits the charge on time.
- Fee waiver: If you spend ₹50,000 or more in the first year, your next year’s card fee is fully waived.
- PayZapp benefits: When you link the card with PayZapp, you can earn extra cashback on utility bills, mobile recharges, and similar payments.
- Shopping cashback: You get up to ₹1,000 cashback on shopping done inside the app across 200+ brands.
- Easy payment: With Swipe to Pay, you can make payments safely without entering OTP every time.
4. Credit & Safety Features
- Revolving credit: You can pay the minimum amount due and carry the remaining balance to next month.
- Interest rule: If you don’t pay the full bill, interest will be charged on the pending amount.
- Smart EMI: Big purchases can be converted into EMIs after spending, which helps in managing monthly payments.
- Zero card liability: If your card is lost or misused and you report it immediately, you are protected from fraud by HDFC Bank.
How does Redemption Options work and Rules
- Fuel Points are valid for 2 years, so you can use them later without tension.
- Best use is fuel through IndianOil XTRAREWARDS, where 1 Fuel Point = ₹0.96.
- Cashback or product redemption gives low value — around ₹0.20 per point.
- At IndianOil pumps, only 70% of the fuel bill can be paid using Fuel Points.
- The remaining 30% must be paid by cash, card, or UPI. Full fuel payment using points is not allowed.
Monthly Reward Limits (Important)
- Fuel rewards: 250 points/month (first 6 months), 150 points/month (after that)
- Grocery rewards: 100 points/month
- Utility bill rewards: 100 points/month
Real Monthly Value (Approx)
- Fuel savings after 6 months: ₹144 per month
- Grocery + utility savings: ₹192 per month
- Total realistic saving: around ₹336 per month
Example: A normal city boy, Aashish Gupta, spends around ₹4,000 every month on fuel and another ₹4,000 on groceries and bills. After six months, 150 fuel points give around ₹144, and grocery plus bill points give about ₹192. So the monthly benefit comes to near ₹336. In one year, this becomes almost ₹4,000. Even after the card fee, you still save around ₹3,500.
What are the Fees and Charges
This card comes with a ₹500 annual fee plus GST. But honestly, most people don’t even pay it if they use the card properly.
- Joining fee: Free if you spend ₹50,000 within the first 90 days
- Renewal fee: Free if you spend ₹50,000 in one year
- Interest: Around 3.5% per month if you don’t pay the full bill
- Cash withdrawal: 2.5% or ₹500, whichever is higher (avoid this)
- Foreign spending: 3.5% extra charge, so not good for foreign use
- Reward redemption fee: ₹99 whenever you redeem points
Late Payment Charges (Very Important)
| Outstanding Bill Amount | Late Fee |
|---|---|
| Up to ₹100 | Nil |
| ₹101 – ₹500 | ₹100 |
| ₹501 – ₹5,000 | ₹500 |
| ₹5,001 – ₹10,000 | ₹600 |
| ₹10,001 – ₹50,000 | ₹800 |
| Above ₹50,000 | ₹1,300 |
Real talk: If you pay the bill on time, you don’t need to worry about these charges at all.
