IRCTC HDFC Bank Credit Card
⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (Frequent Train Traveller Card)
Ideal for regular train users. Earn high reward points on IRCTC bookings, get transaction charge waiver and complimentary railway lounge access every quarter.
💡 Easemoney Tip: Book tickets via SmartBuy or IRCTC — a few trips yearly can recover the annual fee.

The IRCTC HDFC Bank Credit Card was launched on 1 March 2023 as a partnership between HDFC Bank and IRCTC. The bank introduced it mainly for rail-loving customers who book train tickets frequently and want some savings on railway travel. This is a co-branded Entry-level travel credit card running only on the RuPay network. Because of RuPay, you can also link it to UPI apps and pay by QR at shops using your credit limit.

The main benefit comes during railway booking — on IRCTC ticket payments, you can get around 10% value-back through rewards and charges adjustment. Cardholders also get access to selected railway lounges, so during long waiting times at stations, you can sit inside an AC lounge instead of the platform waiting area. All the benefits around the rails. The first major benefit is –

1. IRCTC railway lounges Benefit

This card gives proper railway lounge facility, useful when train delays or long waiting happens. Instead of sitting on a platform bench, you can wait inside lounge comfortably.

  • Total 8 complimentary visits per year
  • Maximum 2 visits per quarter
  • Both the primary cardholder and the add-on cardholder can use
  • Small ₹2 validation swipe taken at entry

What you actually get inside

Stay allowed around 2 hours and normally includes:

  • One buffet meal (breakfast/lunch/dinner depending arrival time)
  • Unlimited tea and coffee
  • AC seating hall and clean washroom
  • Charging points for mobile/laptop
  • Free Wi-Fi, newspapers and magazines
  • Changing room facility

(Some extra things, like a recliner chair or a massage chair, are paid separately.)

How to enter the lounge

  • Carry your physical HDFC IRCTC credit card
  • Valid same-day train ticket required
  • The card is swiped at the counter, and a ₹2 verification fee is charged

For passengers with early arrival or late-running trains, this feature alone saves a lot of discomfort, especially in crowded stations.

2. IRCTC HDFC Credit Card Reward Program Benefits

Here, rewards are not just points collection — the bank structures it so points directly help in future ticket booking. That is why many regular passengers prefer this card.

1. Reward earning (points on spending)

CategoryReward Points (per ₹100)Monthly Cap
IRCTC ticket booking (website/app)5 RP1,000 RP per month (12,000 yearly)
Other normal spending1 RP1,000 RP per month
  • No rewards on: fuel, wallet load, rent payment, government payments, education fees or EMI interest.
  • Validity: points remain valid for 2 years.
  • Minimum points required to redeem: 100 RP
  • Redemption fee: ₹99 + GST per request

2. How to Redeem Reward Points (main highlight)

Best part here, your 1 Reward Point = ₹1 value when used for railway travel. You can redeem in two ways:

Train tickets

  • Book through HDFC SmartBuy
  • Use points to pay up to 70% of the ticket fare
  • Remaining 30% paid using a card

IRCTC vouchers

  • Available in ₹250, ₹500, ₹1,000, ₹1,500 values
  • Same 1:1 ratio

3. Linking loyalty number (very important step)

You must link the 11-digit loyalty number printed on the back of the card to the IRCTC account; otherwise, points may not reflect properly.

  1. Login IRCTC website or the Rail Connect app
  2. Go to the Loyalty Account section
  3. Select Add Loyalty Account
  4. Enter 11-digit number
  5. Verify OTP on the registered mobile
  6. After linking, your railway bookings start crediting properly.

Here points are actually useful because they convert directly into train tickets. After a few journeys, the next ticket fare reduces automatically. For frequent AC travellers, this card feels more rewarding than normal cashback cards.

What are the Additional Top 8 features?

  1. Welcome gift: After the card issue, you have to make your first transaction within 37 days, and to receive a ₹500 voucher. Many users recover the joining cost immediately with this starting benefit.
  2. Annual fee waiver: Renewal fee ₹500 becomes zero if yearly spending crosses ₹1.5 lakh. For regular train travellers or family usage, this target is normally achieved without extra purchases.
  3. UPI payments (RuPay use): Link card in BHIM, GPay or PhonePe and scan shop QR. Payment goes from credit limit instead of bank balance, useful for kirana, medical and small merchants.
  4. SmartBuy extra cashback: Booking railway tickets through HDFC SmartBuy gives an additional 5% cashback above reward points. Direct IRCTC booking works, but SmartBuy usually gives better savings.
  5. IRCTC transaction fee waiver: Around 1% service charge on ticket booking is waived (up to ₹1,000 monthly). Statement total automatically becomes slightly cheaper than normal payment methods.
  6. Quarterly milestone voucher: Spend ₹30,000 in a quarter and bank credits ₹500 voucher. In a full year this can add about ₹2,000 extra value from routine expenses.
  7. Fuel surcharge waiver: 1% fuel surcharge waived on ₹400–₹5,000 petrol transactions, capped ₹250 per statement cycle. Bike commuters and daily car users notice regular monthly saving.
  8. Lost card protection: If card is misplaced and reported quickly to helpline, bank gives zero liability on unauthorised usage after reporting, so your money and credit limit remain protected.

How to Apply — IRCTC HDFC Card

The full process is now online; you normally don’t need a branch visit. Bank verifies identity through digital KYC and video KYC.

Should you check eligibility first?

Yes, better to check before applying directly. Direct application creates a hard inquiry on your CIBIL report. If rejected multiple times, the credit score drops and future approvals become harder.

Eligibility tools (like Easemoney or similar pre-check services) do a soft enquiry, meaning: Approval chance estimated first, your score not affected, you apply only when profile matches. So practical advice — first check eligibility, then apply confidently.

Step-by-step application process

  1. Go to HDFC Bank website (or IRCTC card page) and choose IRCTC HDFC card
  2. Enter mobile number, PAN and date of birth → OTP verification
  3. Fill details: address, job type, salary and employer information
  4. Submit application

After submission, bank checks your profile and sends KYC link.

Digital KYC OR Video KYC (what actually happens)

You will receive a secure video link. Keep ready:

  • Original PAN card
  • One blank white paper
  • Blue/black pen
  • Good internet

During call:

  • Officer takes your live photo
  • You show PAN card to camera
  • You sign paper and display signature
  • You must be physically in India during verification

Once VKYC passes, approval processing starts. After the approval timeline

  • Virtual card: sometimes active within 1–2 days in the HDFC app
  • Physical card: courier delivery in about 5–7 working days

Credit limit — how much you usually get

The limit depends mainly on income + CIBIL score + existing loans. Typical range:

  • Starter minimum: around ₹25,000
  • Salary ₹25k/month → approx ₹50,000–₹75,000
  • Mid income users → around ₹1–2 lakh
  • Strong profile / existing HDFC customers → even higher possible

So card type doesn’t fix the limit — your financial profile fixes it.
