SimplySave RuPay SBI Card
The SBI SimplySAVE RuPay Credit Card is a basic entry-level shopping card, mainly for regular day-to-day spending. It suits people who use the card frequently in local stores, grocery shops and medical shops, and you also get reward points on such normal offline purchases.
Because this credit card is on the RuPay network, you can link it inside UPI apps like Google Pay, PhonePe or Paytm and pay any merchant by scanning the QR code. The swipe machine is not necessary every time. Payment is made from your credit limit, and later it comes together in the monthly credit card bill.
You also earn reward points on UPI payments made using this card, but only when you pay a shop or business QR (merchant payment). Sending money to friends or personal transfer will not give reward points.
It’s a credit card that gives extra reward points on routine expenses Indians make every week, especially:
- Kirana & supermarket shopping
- Restaurant / Swiggy / Zomato payments
- Movie tickets
- Department stores
Major Differences Between New vs. Old
The SBI SimplySAVE credit card first started on 30 March 2015 as a basic shopping credit card that offers rewards on special transactions. At that time, it worked like a normal card — you needed a swipe machine or an online payment page.
In September 2022, a big change happened. After the RBI allowed RuPay credit cards on UPI, this card was launched in a RuPay version that can connect to UPI apps.
Still in 2026, you will find the SimplySave Card in multiple networks such as VISA, MasterCard, and RuPay. But, if you want UPI, the only active option is RuPay. VISA And MasterCard do not support UPI.
What this means: Earlier, a credit card could be used only where a swipe machine was available. But, now you can open any UPI app and scan the shop’s QR code. The payment is deducted from your credit card limit, not from your bank account balance.
Old Version — SimplySAVE Visa / Mastercard
- Network: Visa or Mastercard
- UPI: Not supported
- Payment: Requires a swipe/POS machine
- Small shops: Often not accepted
- Rewards: Only on card swipe transactions
- Carry card: Physical card required
New Version — SimplySAVE RuPay UPI
- Network: RuPay
- UPI: Works on apps like GPay, PhonePe and Paytm
- Payment: Scan QR code
- Small shops: Accepted at kirana stores, pharmacies and clinics
- Rewards: Rewards are also available on UPI payments
- Carry card: Only your phone is needed
Important: If you already have the old SimplySAVE card, you can request a network change to RuPay through the SBI Card app. After the change, link it to UPI and you can start paying using your credit limit.
SBI SimplySAVE RuPay Card — The Reward Points Benefits
This card does not give cashback directly. Instead, it gives reward points. You spend first, points collect slowly, and later you reduce your credit card bill. Unlike cashback cards, money is not instant — but saving is real.
If you pay grocery bill at kirana shop using UPI scan linked to this card, you still earn reward points. You use credit limit and also get saving together.

SBI SimplySAVE RuPay Card — Fees, Interest and Real Charges (2026)
This card looks affordable in yearly fee. But the real game starts if interest begins. Before using a credit card, you should clearly know the charges. Below is the simple explanation of all important fees.
📄 Primary Fees
📈 Interest & Late Charges
Late Payment Fee
💳 Transaction Charges
🧾 Card Management
⏳ Important Limits
If you pay full bill every month, this card is cheap. But if you only pay minimum due, interest starts and it becomes expensive very quickly because 3.5% monthly interest is very high.
Sometimes Flipkart or Amazon offers No-Cost EMI for 12 or 24 months with instant discount. In that case, you can buy a product on EMI and avoid heavy interest charges. Used carefully, this gives real benefit from the card instead of paying 40%+ yearly interest.
