How to Get Your BOB Bank Customer ID in 2025

A few weeks ago, one of my friends, Aashish Gupta, a BTech student from Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, opened a new Bank of Baroda (BOB) savings account.

Like most of us, he was excited to use net banking — check balances and make NEFT payments. But during the setup, the bank asked for his Customer ID. That’s when he called me, confused:

“Bro, what’s a Customer ID, and where do I find it?”

If you’ve ever faced a similar issue, don’t worry — you’re not alone.

This guide is for people just like you.

Hi, I’m Nanne Parmar, a Google Finance author and editor. I can relate to your missing ID issue. It happens with many of our clients. To make it easy for you, I have written this simple-to-follow guide to help you retrieve it, without logging in or going through difficult forms.

Just scroll and try any of the methods that you feel are best for you.

So, without wasting time, let’s begin the guide.

What is the Customer ID in Bank of Baroda?

Bank of Baroda Customer ID

Bank of Baroda is the third-largest public sector bank in India, right after PNB and SBI. According to the BOB Wikipedia Page, its total income for 2025 was ₹1.53 lakh crore (American $18 billion). The bank also touches more than 165 million customers across 17 countries. To handle this 16.5 crores customer baseline, the BOB uses a unique ID system, also known as the customer ID.

The Customer ID — also called CIF (Customer Information File) number. It’s a special code allotted to each new customer, not each account. So if you have a savings account and a loan account in BOB, you’ll have the same Customer ID for both.

Your BOB Customer ID is a 9 to 14-character alphanumeric code. It can be:

  • Just full digits like 533239992, or
  • A mix of letters and numbers like FWH002334

It places you as a person, not your account — like a digital fingerprint used across all BOB platforms and services.

How is it Different From an Account Number?

Here’s an easy way to remember:

ItemWhat it does
Account NumberUnique for each account
Customer IDUnique for each person (same for all BOB accounts you own)

Where is the CIF ID used in the bank?

Your ID is required in many places and products:

  • Registering for Net Banking
  • Logging into the BOB World App
  • Using the BOB mPassbook App
  • Re-KYC and verification
  • Filling up forms at a branch
  • Tracking or reporting account issues

Now that you understand its importance and the need for digital banking, let’s look at how to find it quickly. Let me share one of my favourite options to retrieve it –

1. Know Your BOB Customer ID Through SMS

All Thanks to BoB bank, the SMS banking for retrieving they still providing for all types of customers. As per the Ask ADI by BOB Bank, this is the quickest official method to retrieve your Customer or User ID, and it doesn’t require any app to download or log in. All you need is your mobile phone and an active SMS pack. Follow the steps here –

  1. Open your Messages app.
  2. Type this: “CUST” (no symbols, only letters)
  3. Now, in the “send to” section, enter the (8422009988) number and tap on send (from your registered mobile number only)
  4. After 10 to 20 seconds, you will get an SMS from the BOB bank with your full ID.

Tips:

  • First, confirm your mobile number is linked to your bank account.
  • This service works 24×7.
  • If SMS is not received, it can be a server delay or a weekend issue.
  • If no SMS is received, your number may not be registered. Visit the branch and update it, or try the next method.

2. Use BOB Netbanking (No Login Required)

If you prefer using a laptop or desktop and the above method does not work for you, you can try it. You don’t even need to log in. In Bank of Baroda, the User ID is your customer ID. Follow the process to retrieve it.

If this online method does not work for you, you feel stuck in these techy steps. Then, good old paperwork can help. Check your received documents, such as –

  • Chequebook: Some versions have the Customer ID printed inside.

  • Debit/Credit Card Kit: Sometimes printed on the top page.
  • Credit Card Statement: Look at the top-right section — Customer ID is listed.

If you’ve opted for e-statements, finding your Customer ID is easy.

Follow the steps –

  2. Search for: "Bank of Baroda statement"
  3. Open the latest mail and download the PDF
  4. Use this password to open it:

Note:

If you’ve never received e-statements, you can request a physical one.

As per BOB’s official site, a duplicate statement/passbook costs ₹75 and shows the latest balance and Customer ID. It is sent to your registered address via India Post.
