Maintaining this large number of customers and a vast network efficiently requires a system that can uniquely identify each customer. That’s where the Customer ID comes in.

So, what really is it?

  • It’s a unique 9-digit number assigned to you when you open an Axis Bank account or receive a credit card only.
  • It is not the same as your account number.
  • A single Customer ID links all your accounts and services under a single roof: savings, credit cards, loans, etc.

1. Get Customer ID by SMS (for both savings and credit card users)

This is the quickest method if your mobile number is linked to your Axis Bank account. Axis Bank officially still provides SMS SMS-based banking system for all types of account holders, including credit card accounts. Here you don’t need internet and a smartphone, it works on all. However, SMS Pack is required. Here are the steps to follow –

For Savings Account Holders:

  1. First, open the SMS app on your mobile phone.
  2. Here, you have to type CustID in the message body.
  3. “Sent To” section, enter any of the numbers – 56161600 or +919951860002
  4. Tap on the send button.
  5. After a few seconds, you will receive an SMS containing your Customer ID.

For Axis Credit Card Customer ID Customers:

  1. Open your SMS app on your registered mobile number.
  2. Type CUSTIDCC XXXX, replacing “XXXX” with the last four digits of your credit card number.
  3. Same as Above, send it to 56161600 or +919951860002. (anyone)
  4. After 2/3 seconds, your Customer ID will be sent to you via SMS.

Tip: Use this method when you’re in a remote location and don’t have access to your documents or login details.

2. Use Axis NetBanking (Without Logging In)

If you are on your desktop and just want your customer ID, Axis Bank offers a direct online method for you to retrieve it without checking documents.

  • 1 Step – Search on Google and open Axis Bank’s official website, and tap on the login button.
  • 2 Step – Here, you will get the “Forget customer ID” link just below the login fields.
  • 3 Step – Now enter your country code + your mobile number and Full PAN Number.
  • 4 Step – Tap on submit and enter the OTP sent to your phone and email ID.
  • 5 Step – All Set! Your customer ID will be displayed just after entering the OTP.

Note: This method works only if your PAN and mobile are correctly linked to your account.

3. Use Aha! Chatbot By Axis Bank

Recently, Axis Bank launched Aha!, a powerful AI Chatbot for direct chat banking. It is available on the official Axis Bank website as a floating icon. Follow the steps to retrieve your CIF ID by just chatting with it.

  • Go to the Official website AxisBank.com
  • Tap the chat icon in the bottom-right corner (floating)
  • Type: “Find my Customer ID”
  • Aha! will reply with an option: “Please click ‘Confirm’ if you want to know your Customer ID”
  • Tap Confirm
  • Choose whether your account is NRI or not (select Not if unsure)
  • Enter the OTP sent to your phone
  • Your Customer ID will appear in the chat

It works well on both devices, desktop and mobile browsers.

4. Use the Axis Mobile App

If you already use the Axis Mobile app, finding your Customer ID is super simple. If not registered and using for the first time, simply register with your SIM and debit card details to set a 6-digit m-PIN.

  • Open the Axis Mobile App
  • Log in using your 6-digit mPIN, Fingerprint, or Face Unlock.
  • Tap the three lines (menu) in the top-left corner
  • Go to “My Profile” and select the “View Profile” button.
  • Tap on “Customer Information”
  • Your 9-digit Customer ID will be visible there

5. Check Axis Bank Received Documents

This is one of the best options for you, if the above online techy methods do not work for you. Many people overlook this simple option. Your Customer ID is printed on various official documents.

Here’s where to look:

Welcome Letter

  • When you open an account (especially a half-KYC one), you get a Welcome Letter
  • Your Customer ID is printed at the top or bottom of the page

Welcome Kit

  • After full KYC, you receive a Welcome Kit with your chequebook and account details
  • Check the kit carefully; your Customer ID is usually inside the cover or printed on the document slip

Cheque Book

  • Open the first page of your cheque book
  • You’ll find your Customer ID along with your name and account number

Passbook

  • If you opted for a physical passbook, it will have the Customer ID on the front page
  • If you lost it, request a new one at the branch (may be chargeable)

Credit Card Kit

  • Your credit card welcome kit also contains your Customer ID, usually printed in the credit limit section

Account Statement (Physical)

  • You can also find it in the top section of any physical bank statement
  • Note: Physical statements may cost Rs. 100 plus taxes

What if you don’t have any documents?

Download your Axis Bank account e-statement:

  • Open the email linked to your Axis account
  • Search for subject: Axis Bank Statement
  • Download the PDF
  • Use the password: first 4 letters of your name (in caps) + DDMM of your DOB
  • Open the PDF and check the Account Summary section for your Customer ID

Remember: This method works only for savings account holders, not credit card customers.

6. Ask for Help from Axis Support Team

If none of the above methods work for you, simply reach out to Axis Bank’s support team.

Tell them you need your Customer ID. They will ask for basic verification, like account number, mother’s name, and DOB.

Alternatively, visit your nearest Axis Bank branch. Carry one valid ID proof (Aadhaar, PAN, Voter ID, etc.)

If your passbook is lost, request a new one. The new passbook will also have your Customer ID printed clearly.

FAQs

  • Where is the Customer ID in an Axis Bank cheque book?

    It is usually printed on the first page inside the Axis Bank full chequebook copy. just below your name and account number. If you don’t see it there, check the back of the cover page — some versions place it there.

  • What should I do if my Axis Bank Customer ID is suspended?

    If your Customer ID is suspended by Axis Bank, it usually means there has been suspicious activity or multiple incorrect login attempts by you or an unknown user. To remove suspension, you have to contact the helpline team at 1860-419-5555 (Monday to Friday). Also, you can visit your home branch with ID proof and a passbook. They will guide you to help. If nothing works, you need to send an email to the Axis Bank support, and they will remove it within 48 hours on working days.

  • Can I retrieve my Axis Bank Customer ID through a missed call?

    Currently, there is no missed call service to retrieve your Customer ID. However, you can easily get your Customer ID via the SMS method. Sending “CustID” to 56161600 to retrieve it directly to your phone.

  • Does every Axis Bank product (like a loan or credit card) have a separate Customer ID?

    No. If all your Axis products (accounts, cards, loans) are under the same PAN and KYC, they share the same Customer ID.
