Let me tell you a small story before we begin the article.
Last month, one of my friends, Rohit Shukla, who runs a small curtain shop near Alwar Bypass, called me for help. He needed to open his IOB Bank digital statement for accounting purposes, but he stuck with the password — and guess what? The password was his Customer ID.
The problem? He didn’t know what a customer ID is? and where to find it.
So, he came over with his phone and passbook, and we sorted it out in just a few minutes.
If you’ve ever been stuck in a similar situation — staring at your screen, trying to figure out what or where your Customer ID is — don’t worry. You’re not the only one.
Hi, I’m Nanne Parmar, a finance writer and Google Scholar Author. I have helped thousands of people figure out everyday banking problems like this, and this time, I’m sharing a step-by-step guide to help you find your IOB Bank Customer ID quickly, without any stress.
Let’s get started –
What is Customer ID in the Indian Overseas Bank?

Indian Overseas Bank is one of the 14 major public banks in India, owned by the Government. As of December 31, 2024, the bank has a touch customer base of over 4 crore (40 million), with a wide network of 3,322 branches across the country.
According to Moneycontrol Data, IOB posted a total income of ₹9,112.67 crores in Q4 FY25, showing its strong financial presence.
To manage such a large customer base, IOB assigns a Customer ID as a special number to each individual.
Your Customer ID (also known as CIF Number in some places) is a unique 8 to 9-digit number provided by the bank.
It helps IOB manage all your accounts and services under one umbrella. Whether you hold one account or five, the Customer ID remains the same.
It’s different from your Login ID or Account Number, and you’ll need it to access many services.
So, Where is Customer ID Used in IOB?

These options don’t require any login or digital access. Just a little digging into your old papers. These traditional methods are best for those who struggle with these online steps and methods –
1. Welcome Letter
Received after partial (half) KYC, usually sent via post or email. Your Customer ID is printed right at the top.

Given after completing full KYC and activating the account. It often includes your:
- Account info
- Debit card
- ATM PIN
- Customer ID (usually on the cover page or leaflet)
3. Passbook

Nope. Your Login ID is user-created for netbanking login, but Customer ID is system-generated, provided by the bank and used to confirm a single identity across all your accounts.
Can I get my Customer ID through UPI apps like PhonePe?
Not directly. UPI apps don’t show Customer ID, but you can use them to confirm account number, IFSC, if linked correctly.
Can I find the Customer ID using just my mobile number?
Not really, you still need your account number, debit card to retrieve it from the official methods offered by IOB Bank.
Can I find my IOB Customer ID without internet?
Yes, as I already told you, check your old physical statement and other official documents provided by the Bank. If lost or stolen, please visit your home branch for help.
