LIC Office Hours 2026 – Timings, Lunch & Premium Payment

If you are a policyholder, knowing the correct office timings becomes necessary for you to pay premiums, submit claims, or access customer services.

As of 2025, in India, there are 5004 offices of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), which are divided into categories: 2,048 branch offices, 1,584 satellite offices, and 1,168 mini offices.

According to the press release of LIC India on 10th May 2021, they changed the timings and included a public holiday for LIC employees in a week.

What Are the Official LIC Office Hours?

The currently active working days are Monday to Friday only. After the government notification on 15 April 2021, LIC also declared every Saturday is a permanent holiday for employees, which means they now run on a uniform five-day work week schedule.

  • Opening Time: The new timing for office opening for you is 10:00 AM, which mainly works for all branch offices and satellite offices.
  • Closing time: The closing time is now 5:30 PM.
  • Saturday & Sunday: closed full hours.

Note: This timing does not work for LIC mini offices or stores near you. They can work like a regular store,9:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

Where Does Lunch Break Fit Into the Day?

Unlike the normal working hours for employees, Lunch hours at LIC are not uniform across India. It depends mostly on the location of the branch in zones –

Such as –

  • Most zones (North, East, West & Central Zones): The general timing for lunch start is 1:30 PM, and it lasts 2:00 PM, around 30 to 45 minutes long.
  • On Fridays, the lunch break may be extended by 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Southern Zone: In the southern cities, you may find the timing around 2:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m..
  • The timing is slightly different for states like Maharashtra, Goa, and Gujarat.

During this break time, you can find that flow slows as many counters shut down. Some large city branches rotate staff, keeping a skeleton team active, but smaller branches may pause almost all services.

The best timing for you is morning at 10:15 am and 12:30 PM. After lunch, you can visit before 4:30 PM; however, most of the services slow down during lunch.

When Should You Visit for Premium Payments?

Premium payments are the most frequent reason people or customers like you step into an LIC branch or satellite office. While offices remain open until 5:30 PM, premium counters close earlier:

  • Monday to Thursday: You have to go around 10:30 AM, just after opening the gate. This time rush is higher, but employees do work faster.
  • Friday: you can visit at 10:00 AM or before lunchtime, for faster work and deposits.

Important for You: You must arrive at least an hour before closing or after lunch to avoid the last-minute rush and counter shutdown issues.

Who Handles Customer Services Beyond Premiums?

Not all visits are about premiums. A few customers also visit the branches or mini offices for multiple services, such as –

  • Maturity claims
  • Survival benefits
  • Policy loans and loan repayments
  • Change of nominee or address
  • NEFT mandate registration
  • Policy revival requests

For these, the counters remain available till 5:00 PM, unlike premium counters. Still, starting paperwork late in the evening is discouraged—most staff prefer completing fresh requests before 4:30 PM. However, try not to visit during lunchtime.

Additional Questions

  • What are the timings of LIC HFL (Housing Finance) offices?

The office timing is regular Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, that is last hours; however, the second and fourth Saturdays of every month are public holidays for LIC HFL branches.

  • Are LIC offices open tomorrow?

If tomorrow is a count in Monday-to-Friday, then yes, LIC offices open 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM. But they usually closed on weekends and holidays. You can check the live working hours on Google Maps, Apple Maps, and Justdial.

  • What are the actual working hours of Life Insurance Corporation of India branches in 2026?

Most LIC branches and satellite offices open at 10:00 AM and close at 5:30 PM, Monday to Friday only. Saturdays and Sundays are full holidays for regular LIC offices.

  • Do LIC offices really stop work during lunch hours?

Yes, practically. Lunch usually starts around 1:30 PM in most zones and 2:00 PM in southern regions. Smaller branches slow down almost completely, while bigger ones run limited counters.

  • Should I still visit an LIC branch for routine work in 2026?

Not always. Premium payments, loan interest, policy revival, and status checks are smoother online. Branch visits now make more sense only for claims, document-heavy changes, or complex corrections.

  • Are LIC offices closed on all Saturdays?

For regular LIC branches, yes. Since the five-day work rule, all Saturdays are holidays. However, LIC Housing Finance offices still follow a different Saturday schedule.

  • Do claim-related services follow the same timing as premium counters?

No. Claim, loan, nominee change, and policy servicing desks usually accept work till around 5:00 PM, but new requests after 4:30 PM are often discouraged by staff.

  • Are LIC mini offices and collection centres open on weekends?

Yes, some mini offices and authorised LIC service points function like local shops, often 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, including weekends. Timings depend entirely on the individual outlet.

  • Can I pay LIC premiums after lunch hours?

You can, but it’s risky. Post-lunch counters reopen slowly, and by 4:00–4:30 PM many premium desks shut. Friday afternoons are especially crowded and unpredictable.

  • What is the best time to visit LIC for premium payment without delays?

From branch experience, 10:15 AM to 12:30 PM is ideal. Premium counters start closing after 4:00 PM, so late-evening visits often lead to token denial or next-day advice.
