Who Can Do RTGS in Canara Bank
The Canara Bank RTGS (Real Time Gross Settlement) system is one of the fastest options for transferring large amounts. Most people still find the most reliable option for RTGS via a branch, where you will need an RTGS form issued by Canara Bank to request the transfer. It is a single sheet form, works for both NEFT and RTGS transfer. RTGS transactions are managed by RBI regulations, and only specific types of customers can use this facility –
| Eligibility | Details |
|---|---|
| Account Holder | Only Canara Bank account holders (individuals, firms, or companies) can initiate RTGS from their own account. |
| Minimum & Maximum Transaction Limit | You can start with ₹2,00,000. But there’s no upper limit as such, it most of the time depends on your account type and branch policies. |
| Type of Transfer | Account-to-Account only via Cheque only (cash payments not allowed). |
| Can a family member do | Yes, but if an account holder signed a cheque leaf, additional documents (ID proof), a passbook, and a specific reason, the branch may ask |
| RTGS-Enabled Branch | The transaction must be done at an RTGS-enabled Canara Bank branch. As per the Canara Bank policy, nearly all Canara Bank branches in India are RTGS-enabled now. |
| Non-Account Holders | Cannot use RTGS. They can only use NEFT (cash-based) up to ₹50,000 per transaction. |
| Options for RTGS | If you have an issue visiting your branch, you can use Canara Bank Netbanking or Mobile banking for online RTGS |
In simple terms, RTGS is for customers who hold a valid Canara Bank account with a sufficient balance.

Can You Use Cash for Canara Bank RTGS?
No — You cannot use cash for RTGS transactions, as per the RBI and Canara Bank transaction rules. RTGS is strictly for account-to-account transfers.
If you only have cash, you must first deposit the cash into your Canara Bank account, wait until it reflects, and then do RTGS from that account.
However, NEFT (not RTGS) allows cash transfers up to ₹50,000 for non-account holders.
3 Step: Submit the RTGS Form at the Counter
Once you have:
- Filled the RTGS form,
- Attached your self-cheque, and
- Verified all details,
You have to hand the documents directly to a bank officer at the cash/transfer counter only. Don’t give anyone or drop the RTGS form in any drop box; it won’t be processed.
The officer will verify your details and signature, confirm the balance, and then provide you with a Customer Acknowledgement Slip with a UTR (Unique Transaction Reference) number.
Keep this UTR number — it helps track the transfer if required. Also, you can complain here – Canara Bank Fund Transfer complaint portal
for any RTGS or NEFT-related issues.
