How HDFC Has Changed Cheque Book Requests in 2025

From 8 August 2025, HDFC Bank revised its cheque book request journey for customers like you. Now, the Bank has just upgraded the NetBanking portal. The new interface is faster, OTP-based, and removes older CAPTCHA steps. Now, you can simply order it using your mobile. Here are the steps –

The Request Process via HDFC NetBanking (New portal)

1 Step – Open Chrome or any web browser on your device. Visit the New page of the HDFC NetBanking portal.

2 Step – Enter your Customer ID and Password. Now, no captcha required, faster for you. Also, if two-factor authentication is enabled, you will receive a mobile OTP only.

3 Step – After logging in, click on the Accounts menu from the header. Here, on the right side, locate Quick Links → select Cash, Cheque & Demand Draft.

4 Step – Click on Request Cheque Book (first option).

5 Step – Now, just choose your account number (if multiple), verify your registered address (this cannot be changed at this stage).

  • Review applicable charges as per your account type.
  • Tap Continue, enter OTP, and confirm the request.
  • You will receive an on-screen reference number, plus SMS confirmation on your linked mobile phone.

For a Smartphone, Go with the HDFC Mobile Banking App

HDFC also launched a new mobile banking app, but it is still early access stage for you; however, the older app is still active for all customer types. You can choose the older method as well. Here are quick steps –

Actions Required:

  1. Open the HDFC Mobile Banking app.
  2. Log in using your Customer ID and Password / MPIN.
  3. Tap the menu icon (top left).
  4. Select the Pay section and go with Cheques.
  5. Tap on Get New Cheque Book.
  6. Select your account number.
  7. Tap to read the basic charges and tick the terms & conditions box.
  8. Verify your default registered address (cannot be changed here).
  9. Tap on confirm, after selecting it, you will get an instant ID for tracking and delivery estimated timing as per your location.

Cheque via HDFC WhatsApp Chat Banking

HDFC has also added WhatsApp Banking as a customer-friendly option.

  1. Save 70700 22222 in your contacts.
  2. Open WhatsApp and say “Hi” to the chatbot.
  3. Select Account Services, Tap on More Services → Cheque Book Request.
  4. Confirm your account number and address.
  5. WhatsApp will show you:
    • Your remaining free cheque leaves quota.
    • Your registered address.
  6. Tap Proceed → confirm via OTP.

Advantage for you: WhatsApp also allows instant address change services, which are not available in NetBanking or Mobile Banking during cheque book requests.

No Internet Available – Try these Alternatives For You

1. Get HDFC Cheque Book via SMS

The process is way faster than net banking, but limited, steps –

  • Simply send your query to 7308080808.
  • No special format is required – just type “Cheque Book Request”.
  • You will receive a confirmation SMS back once your request is logged.

However, it only works with hdfc account-linked mobile number. (any type)

2. Request via Call Banking

Another offline option is to call HDFC’s dedicated IVR number:

  • Dial 1800 270 3366 (toll-free).
  • Follow IVR instructions → choose Cheque Book Request.
  • Your request will be placed, and confirmation will be sent via SMS.

This option is particularly useful for customers who are not comfortable with digital channels.

Note: if this option is not working for you, you have to register first. Simply send an sms to 7308080808. In the SMS, type –  “Register” <Space> “Last 4 digits of customer ID” <Space> “Last 4 digits of account number”

What are the Default Cheque Book Charges (2025)

While request methods differ for you, the charges are the same and only depend on your account type. August 1 2025, HDFC revised fees for Savings/Salary/NR Account, including the cheque book charges.

  • Now – Free 1 Chequebook of 10 Leaves Yearly for Other Savings Variants (incl. BSBDA).
  • After that, Rs 40 + GST per 10 leaves for normal accounts and for senior citizens, Rs 36 + GST.

Before August 2025, 1 Chequebook of 25 Leaves Yearly, but not anymore.

The new policies on HDFC cheque books in 2025

  • TIN/IPIN regeneration: Free since Aug 2022 (TIN) and Aug 2025 (IPIN).
  • Return charges: If the cheque book is returned undelivered due to wrong address/consignee issues, you will be charged ₹50 per instance.
  • Unlike ICICI, you can not select a temporary Delivery address for cheque books.

How to Download the HDFC Cheque Book Request Form PDF

If you are hdfc customer, now, you can request a new cheque book at your home or nearest branch using a simple physical form.

  • You have to fill in some basic details and ensure your cheque book request is processed smoothly.
  • Enter your Customer ID and date.
  • Fill in your name, account number, and mobile number.
  • Specify the number of cheque books and leaves required.
  • Choose the delivery mode: collect at the branch or dispatch via courier.
  • Add any remarks, such as “for payments for RTGS”
  • Sign twice as indicated on the form.
  • Submit the form to the branch staff for processing.

Tip for You: Most branches may not provide this form directly. You may ask for a Service Request Form instead, which is equally simple. You can download the Service Request Form and fill in the cheque book section, tick options, and sign.

  • Can I get an HDFC cheque book instantly in an emergency?

    Yes, visit your home branch, request an emergency cheque book at the counter, and the staff will provide a handwritten number and details on the leaves. Note: charges may be higher than regular.

  • How many leaves are there in an HDFC cheque book?

    By default, it is set for 25 cheques for the savings account; you cannot edit or increase leaves online. You can re-order after a few days.

  • How long does it take for an HDFC cheque book to be delivered?

    As per HDFC, the estimated timing is 5 to 7 working days after applying using any method. You may receive a Tracking within 3 working days. You can use it on the HDFC courier partners’ website – Bluedart, BSA Citi Couriers, and Aramex. It tells you the real timing of dispatch. If you find a delay, it usually happens due to your location and the courier partner.

  • Can I request a cheque book for a minor account?

    Yes, a parent or guardian can request a cheque book for a minor account using NetBanking, Mobile Banking, or a branch visit. However, you can also do that if the account type counts in self-service banking.

  • What should I do if my cheque book is lost or stolen?

    Immediately inform your home branch and request a stop payment or a new cheque book. You can apply again, but the free limit is exceeded, and you may have to pay charges.
