How to Get Canara Bank Customer ID Easily

A few days ago, one of my clients, Mr Rajiv from Dehradun, needed his customer ID to access his Canara Bank account statement, but he had no idea where to find it.

He searched his emails, checked his SMS inbox, and even tried to get in via Internet banking. But couldn’t find it anywhere. So, he called me to ask if there is any easy way to find my customer ID?

What is the Canara Bank Customer ID?

Canara Bank was founded by the indian government in 1906. Today, it is one of India’s leading public sector banks, with a 2024 revenue of ₹1.39 lakh crore (US$16 billion). According to the Press release, the bank has around 11.76 crore customers as of March 2025.

For better convenience, Canara Bank provides a 9-digit Customer ID or CIF number (a unique number) to every account holder when they open an account. It links all your Canara Bank services — savings account, loans, demat, and credit card — into a single profile.

When, Why, and Where Is the CIF or Customer Number Used?

This customer ID is required for almost every service you access, including –

1. Registering for net banking or mobile banking
2. Contacting customer support
3. Access the account statement PDF file using by password.
4. Filing complaints or raising service requests

Is the Canara Bank Net Banking User ID and Customer ID the same?

Yes, it is the same. Think of your CIF ID as your account’s identity and your User ID as your online key to access digital services.

Let’s now move to how to locate your Customer Number online easily.

1. Get Customer ID Using the Canara AI1 Mobile Banking App

This is the fastest and easiest method to view your CIF ID. However, for this method, you need an ATM/Debit card, a registered mobile number and Internet. Here are the steps to follow –

1. First, you need to download the AI1 Canara Bank Mobile Banking App using the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
2. Once installed, open the App and Allow Permissions.
   Now, you have to select the SIM linked to your bank account
3. Activate mobile data only, and tap on the Send button on the app to verify via SMS
4. Enter OTP and set a 5-digit Passcode for login.
5. Log in to the App using your Passcode
6. Note: You need to activate mobile banking using an ATM Card or the Activation code provided by the bank branch or Aadhar card, then move next.
7. Tap on “Pay & Transfer” → “More” → “ePassbook”
8. Select the desired period
9. Tap “Get Full Account Details”
10. Enter your 6-digit MPIN
11. Your 9-digit Customer ID will be visible along with full account details. You can use this for both mobile and internet banking.

2. View Customer ID Via Internet Banking

If you have already registered with Canara Netbanking, then it’s just a few clicks away from your customer ID. Here are the steps –

1. Visit the Canara Bank Net Banking Portal
2. Log in using your User ID & Password
3. Go to Profile / My Account Overview
4. Your Customer ID will be listed

What if you’re not registered yet? Don’t worry, here are the steps to register for Canara Bank without using your customer ID –

• Visit Canara Bank Net Banking
• Click New Registration
• Enter the following:
  • Savings/current Account Number
  • ATM/Debit Card Number
  • Registered Mobile Number
• Provide one of your last 5 transaction amounts from debit OR Credit (example: if you received ₹5,000 recently, just enter that)
• Tap Send OTP, enter your received 6-digit OTP
• Set your login PIN
• Log in and check Account Overview / E-passbook — your Customer ID will be there

3. Check Welcome Kit, Chequebook, Passbook, or Old Statement

If you want any direct and physical way, here are a few options to try –

1. Welcome Kit or Letter: Yes, simply open your welcome kit book and check every paper you have. Your Customer ID is usually printed on the front page of the welcome letter.
2. Physical Passbook: If you opened your account by visiting a branch, the bank usually provides a passbook; open it and check page top corner.
3. Chequebook and Physical statement: Check the first page of your chequebook and the statement received from the post office.
4. Old Digital Statements (PDF): Customer ID is usually mentioned at the top.

Tip: Highlight or note it somewhere safe for future use.

4. Check CIF No. Using Canara AI Assistant (AURA)

If you don’t have access to a statement or passbook, try Canara’s AI Assistant – AURA.

1. Go to the Canara Bank Official Website
2. Tap on AURA (bottom-right corner)
3. Select your language
4. Type menu, then select statement
5. Log in using:
   • The last 6 digits of your account number
   • Full mobile number
   • Enter Mobile OTP to log in.
6. Choose the duration
7. Download your statement
8. Open the PDF — your Customer ID will be mentioned there

5. Contact Canara Bank Customer Care or Visit a Branch

If you’ve tried finding your Customer ID through the mobile banking app or online and still can’t locate it, don’t worry. Here are two simple steps to retrieve it:

Option 1: Call Canara Bank Support

• Toll-Free Number: 1800 1030 (24×7) OR You can use Alternate: 080-22250159 (10 AM – 6 PM)
• Give details to verify your identity:
  (Account number, registered mobile number, etc.)
• Ask for your Customer ID after verification.

Option 2: Visit Your Home Branch

• Carry:
  • Passbook
  • Valid ID Proof (Aadhaar/PAN)
• Explain the issue at the help desk.
• They will retrieve your Customer ID after verifying your identity.
